JAMAICA BEACH – What began as a peaceful Easter Sunday took a surprising turn on Galveston Island’s west end, as a press release reported that packages of suspected cocaine have begun washing ashore near Jamaica Beach following an offshore drug operation.
According to the Jamaica Beach Police Department, in coordination with Galveston Police, law enforcement agencies believe that a crew aboard a vessel offshore attempted to dispose of a large quantity of narcotics after being targeted in a drug enforcement raid. The packages are now reportedly being discovered along the coastline.
Residents and beachgoers are urged not to approach or handle any suspicious packages and to report them immediately.
“If you see anything resembling a wrapped or sealed package on the West End beach, do not touch it — call the Jamaica Beach Police Department right away,” authorities said in a statement.
Officials have not released additional details about the vessel or the quantity of narcotics involved. The investigation is ongoing.
