TEXAS CITY – A violent domestic disturbance in Texas City early Tuesday morning led to a police standoff, leaving one man dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound and a woman injured by gunfire, a department press release confirmed.

At approximately 1:01 a.m., Texas City Police responded to a 911 call reporting a family-related disturbance at a residence in the 400 block of 27th Avenue North. Upon arrival, officers came under fire from outside the home. The suspect then retreated inside the residence and fired additional shots from within.

During the incident, a woman inside the home was shot. She was able to escape and reach officers on scene. She was transported by ambulance to a local medical facility. Her injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.

Out of caution, nearby homes were evacuated while Texas City’s Crisis Negotiation Team and S.W.A.T. responded to the scene. After unsuccessful attempts to contact the barricaded suspect, officers obtained arrest and search warrants and entered the home.

Inside, they discovered an adult male deceased from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. No other individuals were located inside the residence, and police confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the community.

The investigation is ongoing, and additional details may be released as they become available.
