LEAGUE CITY – Dozens of residents lined up early Tuesday morning in League City to take part in the city’s annual Earth Day celebration — this year marked by a large-scale tree giveaway.

Starting at 8 a.m. at 600 West Walker Street, more than 250 trees and shrubs were distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis. The free trees varied in size, and each household was allowed one tree.

The event was open to all League City residents, with city leaders encouraging participants to plant their trees at home to support long-term environmental efforts in the community.

The trees were provided through a partnership with Trees for Houston and the Keep Texas Beautiful organization. Funding came from H-E-B and Joe V’s Smart Shop as part of their “Our Texas Our Future” grant program, which supports local sustainability efforts across the state.

City officials on site said the event was not only about celebrating Earth Day but about encouraging residents to take an active role in beautifying their neighborhoods and investing in the environment.

KGTX 7 News was on the ground as residents picked out their trees and shared their plans for planting them throughout League City.
