GALVESTON CO – The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office has issued a public clarification following confusion regarding beach closures ahead of the annual Jeep Weekend on Bolivar Peninsula, scheduled for May 16–18, 2025.
Contrary to earlier reports, county beaches will remain open during the event.
The clarification comes after a statement issued by Galveston County Parks mistakenly indicated that beaches would be closed during the popular gathering. In response, the Sheriff’s Office emphasized that there are no plans to restrict beach access for Jeep Weekend and that all official updates will be provided directly through law enforcement channels.

“Our priority is to support the event and ensure that it can proceed as scheduled while maintaining safety and enjoyment for all attendees,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement released Thursday.
Michael Lentz, Bolivar Beach Sticker Supervisor, also sent a follow-up email to the public, urging residents and visitors to disregard the earlier message about closures. “There are NO scheduled beach closures from May 14th–18th,” Lentz wrote. “The information in that message was not properly verified and/or authorized by the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office.”
Jeep Weekend is an annual celebration that draws thousands of off-road enthusiasts to the peninsula for beach cruising, camping, and community activities. The Sheriff’s Office says it is working closely with local agencies to ensure public safety throughout the weekend and is encouraging residents and visitors to stay up to date via verified sources.
