TEXAS CITY – Dunkin’ Donuts is making its way to Palmer Highway, with plans to open a new store by the end of the year. The popular coffee and donut chain will move into the building at 3310 Palmer Highway, formerly home to Marathon Republic Federal Credit Union, according to a Texas City Social Media Account.

Plans call for Dunkin’ to occupy 2,000 square feet of the building, including a drive-thru. The remaining 2,789 square feet will be leased out to other retail tenants.

The building is owned by Main Street Commercial Partners, a firm that has been actively expanding its commercial presence throughout Galveston County in recent years. In addition to the Texas City project, the company is behind developments in La Marque and Galveston Island, including retail centers featuring McDonald’s, Chipotle, and Raising Cane’s.

Although Texas City’s planning board approved the Dunkin’ site in March, permit applications have not yet been filed, according to city officials.

“Everyone is looking forward to helping them get opened,” said Jennifer Laird, Texas City’s director of communications, in a quote originally reported by The Galveston County Daily News.

Dunkin’ previously announced a plan to grow its Houston-area footprint, including locations in Galveston County, through an agreement with franchisee Manchester Enterprises. Some of the upcoming stores are expected to be co-branded with Baskin-Robbins.

The Texas City location will bring more options for residents along the busy Palmer Highway corridor and is part of a broader wave of commercial investment in the area.
