LEAGUE CITY – Two suspects were taken into custody Tuesday afternoon following a vehicle and foot pursuit tied to a string of vehicle burglaries at local daycare centers, according to the League City Police Department.
The suspects, identified as 21-year-old Jevon Martinez Sheely of Denton and 28-year-old Xavier Romer of Hollywood, Florida, were arrested after fleeing from police in a white Honda HRV believed to be connected to the recent break-ins.
Police say the vehicle was first spotted around 5:12 p.m. on May 6, after a Flock Safety camera flagged its location near South Gulf Freeway and Butler Road. Special Investigative Unit (SIU) detectives quickly located the car parked at the Kiddie Academy on Butler Road. When officers attempted a traffic stop, Sheely, who was behind the wheel, backed into a patrol unit and sped off.

The pursuit led officers onto the southbound lanes of I-45. Before the vehicle could exit the area, SIU detectives deployed spike strips, disabling the Honda’s front left tire. Despite the damage, Sheely continued for a short distance before coming to a stop.
Sheely and Romer then fled on foot, darting across the Southbound Feeder Road and into the Bay Colony Town Center. Sheely was caught shortly after by League City officers. Romer, however, managed to evade capture a bit longer before he was found hiding in a drainage culvert near Ginger Cove Lane in the Bay View subdivision.
The Texas City Police Department’s K9 Unit, Galveston County Sheriff’s Office Drone Unit, and deputies from both GCSO and Precinct 2 assisted in the search.
Sheely is facing charges of Evading Arrest/Detention with a Vehicle ($5,000 bond), Evading Arrest/Detention on Foot ($2,500 bond), and had two outstanding felony warrants—one from Denton County and another from Somervell County. Romer is charged with Evading Arrest/Detention on Foot ($2,500 bond). Police say additional charges are expected for both men.
League City police thanked the assisting agencies and local residents who helped track the suspects using their home security footage. The investigation remains ongoing.
