TEXAS CITY — Authorities in Texas City are investigating a fatal shooting that left a 66-year-old man dead Friday afternoon near FM 517 and Avenue N.
In a press release, police say the incident occurred around 3:25 p.m. on May 9, when officers were dispatched to the scene after receiving a report of an unconscious man lying on the shoulder of the road. The victim, later identified as Glen Davis of San Leon, was riding his bicycle when he was found.
Emergency responders from the Texas City Police and Fire Departments determined Davis had suffered a gunshot wound. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Davis was known in the San Leon and Bacliff communities, where he was considered a familiar presence.
Late Friday night, investigators continued interviewing family members, acquaintances, and motorists who may have been in the area at the time. The section of FM 517 where Davis was located is adjacent to the former HL&P water inlet bridge.
At this time, the investigation remains active. Authorities emphasize there is no known threat to the public.
