GALVESTON/WEST END – A frightening start to the week in Galveston’s Pointe West neighborhood as a fire broke out early Monday morning, engulfing a house near San Luis Pass. Joan O’Connell, a longtime resident in the area, was awakened by her barking dogs and discovered the alarming scene while heading downstairs.
“I was just sleeping, my dogs started barking and pawing at the door, then I got up, looked out the window and saw the house engulfed.” O’Connell told KGTX 7.
The fire quickly spread through the home, but fortunately, the Galveston Fire Department responded quickly, bringing the blaze under control before it could cause further damage. O’Connell spoke with firefighters at the scene, who suggested that the fire may have originated from a trash can located under the stairs. However, the exact cause of the fire has not yet been officially confirmed.
The homes in the Pointe West development, including the property affected by the fire, were built between 2006 and 2007. The area, known for its picturesque location on Galveston’s far west end, is a popular residential neighborhood.
Thankfully, no injuries have been reported, and the fire department continues to investigate the cause. O’Connell is grateful that the situation didn’t escalate further and praised the action of the firefighters.
