HITCHCOCK — A deadly shooting in Hitchcock on Thursday afternoon has left one man dead and another hospitalized, with a 20-year-old suspect now in custody.
Captain Evans of the Hitchcock Police Department told KGTX 7 that officers were dispatched around 3:30 p.m. on May 15 to the 6600 block of Prino Road following reports of gunfire. When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered two adult men suffering from gunshot wounds.
Police immediately administered life-saving aid, but one of the victims died at the scene. The second victim was rushed to the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston, where he remains in surgery.

Witnesses at the scene described the shooter as a young Black male with dreadlocks wearing a dark-colored shirt. Officers later located a man matching that description fleeing the area on foot. He was taken into custody without incident.
The suspect, identified as Jkwon Howard, later confessed to the shooting during an interview with detectives, authorities said.
Howard has been charged with Murder, with bond set at $250,000, and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, with an additional $150,000 bond. The investigation is ongoing, and officials say more details may be released as they become available.
