GALVESTON – Authorities are looking for a suspect who shot a 24-year-old woman during a disturbance outside a Galveston bar early Friday morning.

According to a press release, officers responded around 1 a.m. to reports of gunfire in a parking lot located in the 700 block of 25th Street. While en route, they were informed that the victim had already been taken by car to John Sealy Hospital with a gunshot wound.

Witnesses told investigators that a fight broke out between two groups of men inside the establishment, which prompted security to escort patrons outside. Shortly after, gunfire erupted in the parking area.

The woman was in a vehicle with friends, reversing into a parking space, when a bullet pierced the rear of the car and struck her in the back. She was rushed to the emergency room, where she remains in serious condition, police said.

The suspected shooter, described as a Hispanic male, was last seen running southbound on 25th Street before turning east on Winnie.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Galveston Police Department’s Investigative Services Bureau at 409-765-3781 or Galveston County Crime Stoppers at 409-763-8477.
