ALVIN – A new nonprofit homestead in Alvin is preparing to open its gates in June 2026, with a mission to provide agricultural education and therapeutic outdoor experiences for individuals with special needs, their siblings, disabled veterans, and first responders.

Jungle Jim’s Farm, a registered 501(c)(3), is currently under development. Once complete, it will offer hands-on learning opportunities, animal therapy, and recreational activities at no cost to participants.

“The idea started after we saw how the farm environment helped my younger brother Bobby, who had special needs,” said James, a representative of the farm to KGTX 7. “He responded to being around the animals in a way that no medication could match. We knew this kind of space could help a lot of other people too.”

The planned facility will include livestock areas, a greenhouse, fishing spots, camping zones, and educational programming centered on homesteading skills. Visitors will be able to learn how to raise animals, grow and preserve food, and make farm-based products such as goat milk soap.

“It’ll be like a farm school,” James said. “We’re planning to offer four-hour workshops, let visitors observe chickens hatching, and create opportunities for animal interaction—what we call animal therapy.”

The organization also plans to host public access days, occasional giveaways, and seasonal events. Future developments include building on-site cabins to accommodate families traveling from outside the Houston area.

“We want it to be a full experience for families,” James said. “Eventually, we’ll have cabins so people can stay on the property while participating in activities. For now, we’re renting the local Knights of Columbus hall for events while we build.”

Jungle Jim’s Farm is being funded entirely through donations and community support. The organization’s mission is “empowering and educating the special needs community through agriculture in a safe and friendly environment.”

Construction is ongoing, with preparations underway for a full public launch in the summer of 2026. More information and updates are available on the farm’s website.
