DICKINSON — A Dickinson man is facing multiple assault charges after allegedly leading police on a chase, ramming a patrol car, and barricading himself in his home with two children.
According to the City of Dickinson website, the incident began Friday when an off-duty Brazoria County deputy spotted a suspected intoxicated driver swerving along FM 517. The deputy, believing the driver was impaired, called 911 and began following the vehicle into the Lakes Bay Area subdivision, according to Galveston County Sheriff Jimmy Fullen.
The driver, identified as 44-year-old David Alan Mills, briefly stopped during the pursuit and then reportedly reversed into the deputy’s vehicle twice before continuing to flee to his residence. Once at the home, authorities say Mills assaulted a deputy at the doorway and then barricaded himself inside with two children.

The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office deployed SWAT, who worked to de-escalate the standoff. Mills ultimately surrendered peacefully, Sheriff Fullen said.
While Mills was not subjected to a blood alcohol test, Fullen confirmed that deputies observed clear signs of intoxication at the time of his arrest.
Mills is now charged with aggravated assault against a public servant, carrying a $150,000 bond, and assault on a peace officer, with an additional $75,000 bond. The children were safely recovered from the home, authorities confirmed.
