RECALL: Vivint Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors Recalled for Failing to Warn of Danger

A recall has been issued for combination smoke and carbon monoxide detectors sold exclusively by Vivint, after it was discovered that the devices may fail to alert residents to fire or carbon monoxide—posing a risk of serious injury or death.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall last week, citing a defect in the Apollo America model 5800COMBO units. Approximately 35,000 detectors are affected.

According to the CPSC, the alarms may not sound in the presence of smoke or carbon monoxide, potentially leaving occupants unaware of life-threatening conditions.

Vivint is contacting customers directly and offering free replacements. The CPSC urges all households with the recalled detectors to stop using them immediately and follow Vivint’s replacement instructions.

KGTX 7 News reached out to the La Marque Fire Department, which confirmed they have received no incident reports related to the recalled detectors in their jurisdiction. However, fire officials echoed the urgency of the recall.

“No reported incidents is good news,” a department spokesperson said, “but this type of failure could be catastrophic if not addressed. We strongly encourage residents to verify their alarm models.”

Consumers can find more information and check eligibility for replacement by visiting the official recall notice from the CPSC.
