Through coordination between the U.S. Department of Justice and Mexican authorities, Alvarez was extradited to Texas. He was booked into the Galveston County Jail on February 22, 2024.

According to the La Marque Police Department, the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office consulted with Guillory’s family before offering the plea deal.

Law enforcement officials expressed their appreciation for the collaborative efforts that led to Alvarez’s capture and conviction.

“This case represents years of determination and coordination across borders,” the department stated. “We hope this sentencing brings a measure of closure to the family of Faith Marie Guillory.”
