FRIENDSWOOD – After moving up to Division II, the Friendswood Mustangs Girls Lacrosse Team capped off an outstanding season by placing third in the District and finishing in the quarterfinals in the State tournament.

In an interview with KGTX 7, Head coach Eirene McBride offered her thoughts looking back on her team’s success. She commented how hard her girls worked trying to put Friendswood on the map with lacrosse with the expectations of making a State run.

“We have a lot of girls that put in the work in the offseason,” Coach McBride said, “We had six seniors that had been with us for quite a while, including an All-Academic goalie who really anchored our defense. We were also fortunate enough to acquire an awesome freshman class…I knew that they were going to bring value to the team.” McBride highlighted the team’s chemistry and how effective it was during the season.

With plans already forming for next year, McBride remains optimistic about the team’s future. Despite the loss of their All-Academic goalie, she expects the girls to stay committed and prepare diligently this offseason if they hope to reach their goal.

“As much as they deserve a summer off and a fall off—if they want to continue to grow, they still need to work on themselves, their individual skills.” Coach McBride said. “So hopefully, when we come back together in October and January, they’re ready to step up. We totally expect to go on a long run.”
