CLEAR LAKE — High-octane thrills, roaring engines, and sleek powerboats will take center stage this week as the Texas Outlaw Challenge returns for its 18th year. The multi-day festival, running from June 19 through June 21, brings thousands of spectators and over 200 high-performance boats to the Clear Lake, Kemah, and Seabrook waterfronts.
Founded in 2008, the Texas Outlaw Challenge has grown into one of the nation’s premier performance boating events. This year’s schedule includes the National Shootout Championship, Gunslinger Poker Run, and a series of themed social events hosted on land and water.
KGTX 7 spoke with event producer Paul Robinson, who launched the challenge nearly two decades ago. “We started in 2008, so we’re in our 18th year,” Robinson said. “We’ve helped with six local charities. The event brings in guests and participants, both internationally and locally. It’s brought in over $1 million in revenue.”
One of the marquee events, the high-speed radar shootout, will feature 17 boats this year. According to Robinson, the current speed record sits at 201 miles per hour.

The festivities begin Thursday, June 19, with the popular Stampede Street Party in downtown Kemah. Friday, June 20, is packed with racing and entertainment, including the Most Wanted Outlaw Pool Party and Hang ‘Em High Happy Hour. The event wraps up Saturday, June 21, with the “Ace in the Hole” Dockside Champagne Party and the exclusive Outlaws Finale Gala Private Party.
Proceeds support charitable causes such as Shriners Hospitals for Children, women’s shelters, and local environmental organizations.
To ensure public safety, the City of Dickinson has issued a temporary No Wake Zone on Dickinson Bayou beginning Friday. The Dickinson Police Department Marine Division, along with partner agencies, will be on patrol to enforce the measure.
Maps outlining the restricted waterway zone are available on the City of Dickinson’s website and social media.
