WEBSTER — A tragic single-vehicle crash on the southbound lanes of Interstate 45 has claimed the life of a young child and left several others injured, according to a statement released Wednesday evening by the Webster Police Department.
The crash occurred just south of West Bay Area Boulevard after a Chevrolet sedan reportedly lost control and struck a concrete barrier. First responders arrived at the scene and transported multiple individuals to nearby hospitals with injuries. The child was pronounced dead at the scene.
As of 5:36 p.m., police had not released the names of those involved, pending identification and family notification. The incident is under active investigation by the Webster Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Team.
All southbound lanes of I-45 were closed for several hours, with traffic diverted at the West Bay Area Boulevard exit. Authorities advised motorists to expect extended delays and to seek alternate routes.
