Fatal Hit-and-Run Under Investigation in Texas City

TEXAS CITY — The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal auto-pedestrian crash that occurred early Friday morning on the northbound feeder road of Interstate 45 in Texas City.

According to a statement from the sheriff’s office, an off-duty Galveston Police Department officer discovered the body of a 36-year-old white male around 6:30 a.m. in the 400 block of the Gulf Freeway. Authorities say the vehicle involved in the collision had already fled the scene by the time law enforcement arrived.

Deputies responded to the scene, and the case is being handled by the sheriff’s Crash Team, Major Crimes Unit, and Crime Scene Unit.

Following an investigation, detectives located a vehicle believed to be involved in the crash at a Super 8 Motel in La Marque. The car showed visible damage consistent with the incident, and two individuals were interviewed by investigators.

The name of the deceased has not been released, pending notification of the next of kin. No arrests have been made at this time, but charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
