TEXAS CITY — The City of Texas City is encouraging residents to prepare ahead of hurricane season with a public Hurricane Town Hall scheduled for Wednesday, June 25, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Doyle Convention Center (2010 5th Avenue N.).
According to a recent press release from the City of Texas City, research shows that the region faces a 1 in 9 chance each year of being impacted by a hurricane within 50 miles. Joe Tumbleson, Texas City’s Emergency Manager and Homeland Security Director, emphasized the importance of preparedness: “That is why it is so important for the community to be prepared,” he said, in the city’s statement.
Speakers at the event will include Tumbleson, meteorologist Dan Reilly, representatives from TxDOT, the Texas Division of Emergency Management, and others. The goal is to provide attendees with expert guidance on how to stay safe before, during, and after a storm.
The event will also feature free hotdogs, chips, and drinks for all guests. In addition, the first 200 families in attendance will receive a hurricane bucket, filled with emergency supplies and vital preparedness information.
Raffles will be held throughout the evening, with prizes including a generator, Astros tickets, and survival backpacks. More than 15 vendor booths will be on-site, offering information, giveaways, and resources tailored to storm readiness.
As part of the event lead-up, the city is also hosting a social media giveaway. Residents who share a preparedness tip on the City of Texas City’s official social media platforms will be entered to win a 75-inch television, which will be awarded during the town hall.
