WEBSTER – One person was killed in a traffic collision Monday evening along I-45 South near FM 528 and NASA Parkway, prompting a significant emergency response and slowing traffic for hours.

According to a post from Lt. Terry Garza of Harris County, the incident may have involved a cyclist.

Multiple lanes were shut down while first responders worked the scene. Drivers were urged to avoid the area and use alternate routes such as Bay Area Boulevard.

The freeway was eventually cleared later in the night, though officials have not released the name of the person killed.

The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.
