SANTA FE — Lone Star Snakes will present a live, hands-on educational program at the Mae S. Bruce Library on Wednesday, July 9, with sessions scheduled for 2:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., according to a social media post by the library.

The event is designed to educate attendees about snakes native to Texas, including how to properly identify them, understand their behavior, and respond safely if encountered in the wild. The presentation will also address widespread myths and fears surrounding snakes, which experts say are often based on misinformation.

Live snakes will be present throughout both sessions. Some of the animals will be available for direct interaction under supervision, giving attendees a chance to learn up close in a controlled setting.

Lone Star Snakes is known for providing educational outreach across the state, working with schools, libraries, and community organizations to promote awareness of native wildlife and the role snakes play in the ecosystem. Their presentations aim to reduce fear and increase respect for reptiles, which often serve as natural pest control and play a vital part in maintaining ecological balance.

The event is free and open to the public, but advance registration is required at the front desk due to limited space.

The Mae S. Bruce Library is located at 13302 6th Street in Santa Fe.
