GALVESTON — A man was shot and killed early Wednesday morning on Galveston’s 44th Street, and the suspect is now in custody after being located more than 150 miles away in Goliad County.

According to a statement posted by Galveston Police Chief Douglas Balli, the incident began just before 3:00 a.m. when two men arrived together at a convenience store near 45th Street and Broadway in a white Chevrolet pickup truck. Surveillance video showed both men entering the store, making a cash purchase, and returning to the vehicle.

Moments later, one of the men exited the truck and began running. The other, wearing a red shirt, chased after him. The pursuit ended in the 1000 block of 44th Street, where the man in red shot the victim multiple times, killing him. He then returned to the truck and fled northbound on 44th Street.

“We believe this was an isolated incident between the two individuals,” Balli said in the Facebook post. “However, the suspect should be considered armed and dangerous.”
