DICKINSON – The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of an off-duty Lakeview Police Department officer Tuesday morning.

According to a press release from the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred on the feeder road near Gulf Freeway and FM 517 in Dickinson. The officer, who was in uniform and riding his personal motorcycle to work, was struck by another vehicle. Authorities confirmed the officer died as a result of the crash.

Preliminary findings indicate the incident does not appear to be criminal in nature. As of Tuesday afternoon, no charges have been filed. The investigation remains ongoing.

The Officer involved has been confirmed by a La Marque Police social media statement as Larry Blacksmith.

“This loss is deeply felt across our law enforcement community,” the Sheriff’s Office stated. “We extend our deepest condolences to the officer’s family and the entire Lakeview Police Department.”
