UPDATE: GALVESTON – A pursuit that began in Harris County ended Wednesday morning in Galveston with the suspect dead and no officers injured.
According to Galveston Police Chief Doug Balli, the incident started around 10:10 a.m. when Harris County Precinct 2 deputies attempted to stop a stolen vehicle on southbound I-45 at Belfort Road. Precinct 8 deputies tried to deploy spike strips, but the suspect fired a gun at them.
The pursuit continued into Galveston County, where Galveston police joined in. The suspect crashed in the 5400 block of Broadway in Galveston, exited the vehicle, and exchanged gunfire with officers. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Galveston County DA’s Office stated they would not comment further, since this is still an ongoing investigation.
Original: GALVESTON – A vehicle pursuit that began Wednesday morning in Harris County ended in Galveston at 54th Street and Broadway. Galveston Police has released only few details as of now.
Broadway is shut down in both directions from 51st to 56th Streets. The closure is expected to last for several hours.
Drivers are advised to avoid the area and use Seawall Boulevard or Harborside Drive as alternate routes.
