TEXAS CITY – A late-night disturbance call in Texas City escalated into an officer-involved shooting Thursday night, leaving a 35-year-old man in critical but stable condition, according to a press release from the Texas City Police Department.

The incident occurred around 10:14 p.m. in the 3000 block of Tarpey Avenue. Police were responding to reports of a disturbance that may have involved weapons. When officers arrived on scene, a man emerged from a residence with his left hand concealed under a shirt.

According to the department, officers issued repeated verbal commands for the man to show his hands and drop the shirt. Police said the man did not comply and instead pointed his concealed hand at officers in a threatening manner. Officers then opened fire.

The man, identified as James Hill, sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical aid was rendered by the Texas City Fire Department before Hill was transported to a local hospital.

Hill was found to have outstanding parole warrants, including charges of Assault Family Violence by Impeding Breathing or Circulation and Continuous Sexual Assault of a Child. Both warrants were issued with no bond.

The Texas Rangers and the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office are leading the investigation. Texas City Police officials said they are cooperating fully and will provide more information as it becomes available.
