BOLIVAR – A brush fire has been ongoing since Friday evening, according to multiple social media posts by the Bolivar Volunteer Fire Department.

The fire is believed to have started in the late evening hours of Friday, and the fire department says a lightning strike is to blame.

The current location of the strike is a bird sanctuary, however no property damage or animal deaths have been reported as of late.

The fire department said in a Facebook post on Sunday, “We are monitoring it and will be until we can get to it or it burns itself out. Area is between loop 108 and 87.”

Due to the location and marsh presence, Bolivar VFD has found it difficult to reach the source of the fire, but will keep attempting.

KGTX 7 attempted to reach the the department, however has not received a response as of this publication. Updates will be provided ASAP.
