LEAGUE CITY — A candle is to blame for a house fire, in the 300 block of Lake Front Drive. The fire took place on July 21st, at approximately 7:25 p.m. League City Volunteer Fire Department, with mutual aid from the Kemah Fire Department responded.
The homeowner, Hollie Bailey, shared more details following the incident.
“A candle fell in my room and landed on a trash bag of clothes I was going to donate,” Bailey said. “We tried stomping it out and throwing water on the bag. It wasn’t helping, so I grabbed my son and yelled for my mom to get out of my room — it’s not going out. We ran out of the house while I called 911. I passed my son to my mom and ran back in to get my four dogs. Everyone but my cat, Honey, made it out alive.”

Bailey added that she was grateful her two daughters were not home at the time and were safe at their aunt’s house.
Crews were able to contain the fire and save most of the home. No injuries were reported.
Bailey initially declined to speak with the media at the scene but later contacted KGTX 7 to provide a full statement.
