GALVESTON — A 78-year-old Galveston man died Saturday morning after being hit by a vehicle while riding his bicycle along FM 3005 on the island’s west end.

According to a press release from the Galveston Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 23000 block of FM 3005 around 11:38 a.m. following reports of a crash involving a cyclist. Upon arrival, first responders found the cyclist—identified as Thomas Hall—critically injured. Hall was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said both Hall and the vehicle that struck him were traveling eastbound when the collision occurred. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

At this time, investigators do not believe alcohol played a role in the crash, and no charges have been filed.

The Galveston Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Team is continuing to investigate the incident.
