LA MARQUE – On August 9th, from 2-5 PM, the Coastal Community Federal Credit Union will be holding its 19th annual Back To School Bash. The event will be held at the credit union, in front of Sam’s Club. It will include free school supplies, food, haircuts, physicals, and more. All students and family members from Galveston County are encouraged to attend.

Coastal Community has prepared 500 backpacks of school supplies to give away and aims to reach enough attendees to hand out all of the materials. At last year’s event, attendance stood at around 600 community members, and the goal is to surpass that number this year. Although you don’t have to be a member of Coastal Community FCU to attend the event, a student must be present with an adult/guardian to participate.

Although the event is sponsored entirely by Coastal Community FCU themselves, the company partners with nonprofits and businesses in the area for additional support with the event. The businesses involved include Sam’s Club and Walmart, two companies which provide parking and drinks for the event. Nonprofit vendors include the Family Service Center, Black Nurses Association, Gulf Coast Transit District, City of La Marque, Communities in Schools Galveston County, Ignite School, LULAC, Craving for a Change, Texas Care Galveston, and the Moore Memorial Public Library. There are also various volunteers from different community organizations who will be providing physicals, eye screenings, haircuts, and more.

The Back to School Bash is an annual event that has occurred for the last 19 years, the first event taking place in 2006. It began at the company’s main branch in Galveston, but for the past few years, it has been held at the La Marque branch. This location sits in the center of all of Coastal Community FCU’s branches, making it accessible to the most employees and community members alike.

Angela Taylor, E-Branch Specialist, shared her excitement for the event with KGTX7 News, stating, “I’m excited about this year’s event and the opportunity to be part of Coastal’s vision of giving back to our community. This year’s event is going to be one to remember!”

Editor’s Note: An earlier version of this story stated that the event would be held at the Sam’s Club. The correct location is at the credit union. We apologize for this oversight.
