FRIENDSWOOD — Nearly two years after a 17-year-old Friendswood girl was found dead from fentanyl and other substances, a Houston man has been indicted in connection with the case.
According to a press release from the Friendswood Police Department, officers responded on Aug. 18, 2023, to a home in the 5100 block of Shady Oaks Lane, where they found the teenager unresponsive. Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.
The Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office later determined the cause of death to be the combined toxic effects of multiple substances, including fentanyl — a synthetic opioid that has fueled a surge in overdose deaths across Texas.

Following a lengthy investigation, police identified 26-year-old Manuel Trevino as the person who supplied the drugs linked to the girl’s death. On July 18, 2025, a Harris County grand jury indicted Trevino on a charge of delivery of a controlled substance. He is being held in the Harris County Jail on a $5,000 bond.
The case unfolded just weeks before a major change in Texas law. On Sept. 1, 2023 — two weeks after the girl’s death — House Bill 6 took effect, allowing prosecutors to seek murder charges against those who manufacture or deliver fentanyl that results in a fatal overdose.
Friendswood police commended investigators for “working tirelessly to identify and hold the individual in this case responsible,” the release stated.
