Overnight Argument in Bacliff Convenience Store Ends in Deadly Shooting

BACLIFF — A 56-year-old man is dead and another is in custody after a confrontation inside a Bacliff convenience store escalated into gunfire early Wednesday morning.

The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office says the incident happened around 1:30 a.m. at the Meera Mexican Food Market on Grand Avenue. A deputy on patrol reportedly spotted a disturbance in progress outside the store and quickly realized it involved an active shooting.

According to investigators, two men were arguing inside the business when the dispute turned physical. During the struggle, one of the men pulled a gun and fired a single round, hitting the other in the chest.

The victim, identified as Adam Bolden, was rushed to HCA Clear Lake Hospital but did not survive.

Deputies arrested the suspected shooter, 35-year-old Andrew Payne, at the scene. Payne faces charges of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, with bond set at $200,000, and resisting arrest, with bond set at $1,500. Authorities say additional charges are possible as the case is reviewed by the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office.

Grand Avenue remained partially blocked between 18th and 20th Streets through the morning hours as members of the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes and Crime Scene units collected evidence. Officials stressed that there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The investigation is ongoing.
