KEMAH – The City of Kemah and the Kemah Police Department will host a special ceremony Wednesday, August 13, to honor the legacy of former Police Chief Chris Reed and his family. Reed tragically passed away in 2019, during a water incident in Texas City, after serving two years as Chief for the department.
The tribute will begin at 5:30 p.m. in front of the Kemah Police Department, with city officials inviting the public to attend and celebrate Reed’s lasting contributions to the community.
Kemah Police Chief Raymond Garivey Jr., who took the role after Reed’s tenure, said that although he did not personally know Reed, he has heard nothing but praise for his leadership and character.
“What an amazing man and amazing leader — very involved in the community,” Garivey told KGTX 7. “He treated his staff with respect, and he got the job done.”
Garivey reflected on the importance of leaving a lasting mark in public service, after seeing something special online that he felt would remember him.
“We all talk about legacy in our careers.” Garivey said. “It appears Chief Reed left a legacy that will never be forgotten.” he added.
City officials said the event will serve as both a remembrance and a celebration, offering residents a chance to reflect on the impact Reed made during his years of service in Kemah.
