KEMAH – New dashcam and body camera footage has been released showing the August 11 arrest of Weston Mabee in Kemah by Texas City Officer Behler.

The video shows Officer Behler driving into a parking lot and approaching Mabee, who was standing outside his parked car. According to police, Behler, serving with the Galveston County Crime Reduction Unit Task Force, was investigating a vehicle with a fraudulent license plate. Mabee can be seen telling the officer he is out of his jurisdiction, while Behler identifies himself as a county task force officer.

The footage shows Mabee opening the rear door of his vehicle and reaching toward his child, while Behler instructs him to stay out of the car and go stand in front of a patrol unit. The situation escalates as Mabee struggles with the officer, and the video shows Mabee throwing a punch before Behler pins him to the ground. Texas City Police say Mabee continued to resist and was placed in restraints, leading to charges of assault on a public servant.

Mabee’s girlfriend previously disputed the police account. She said her husband was reaching for their daughter, not attempting to flee, and that the officer did not identify himself. She also said he could not comply with commands while on the ground with Behler on top of him. However, the newly released footage shows Mabee struggling with the officer while being instructed to stand in front of the patrol car, with Behler identifying himself as a county task force member.
