LA MARQUE — Galveston County 4-H is inviting youth and their families to an informational event on August 27 at the Galveston County Extension Office, 4102-B Main Street (FM 519) in La Marque.

The evening, hosted by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension – Galveston County, will run from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and is designed to help children and teens learn how to join 4-H and explore local clubs that fit their interests. From 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., participants can attend a session covering how to get involved, the projects available, and ask questions. From 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., a club fair will allow attendees to meet representatives from local 4-H clubs and learn about the variety of activities offered.

“Typically, when you think of 4-H you think of raising animals. It is so much more than just the farming side of things,” Brock Sanford of Texas A&M AgriLife Extension told KGTX 7. The program also includes opportunities in areas like robotics, photography, fashion, and public speaking, giving youth a chance to explore a wide range of interests.

Texas 4-H is the largest youth development program in the state, reaching more than 550,000 young people each year. Beyond agriculture, it offers programs in STEM, healthy living, leadership, and community engagement, helping participants develop skills and confidence for the future.

In Galveston County, 4-H members participate in clubs such as the Greater Galveston 4-H Shooting Sports Project, Veterinary Science 4-H Club, and Wildcats 4-H Community. These clubs meet regularly to provide hands-on learning experiences and opportunities for community service.

The event is free and open to youth ages 5 to 18 and their families. For more information or to RSVP, visit Galveston County 4-H 101 Night. Additional details about local clubs are available at Galveston County 4-H.
