GALVESTON – A 42-year-old man was arrested Saturday evening after police say he struck a pedestrian with his truck on Seawall Boulevard and fled the scene.

The crash happened around 5 p.m. in the 4500 block of Seawall, according to Galveston police. Witnesses reported a red Ford F-150 traveling westbound hit a pedestrian who was crossing the roadway. The driver did not stop and continued westbound.

Officers later located the truck in the 12000 block of FM 3005 and stopped the driver, identified as Christopher Gehring of Galveston. Police said Gehring was uncooperative during field sobriety tests and resisted officers’ attempts to detain him. A less-lethal device was used before he was taken into custody.

Gehring was transported to UTMB for medical clearance and a blood draw before being booked into the Galveston County Jail. He faces a charge of driving while intoxicated.

The pedestrian was taken to UTMB with serious injuries.
