Santa Fe Man Arrested After Theft at Local Café, Officer Injured During Arrest

SANTA FE — A Santa Fe man is facing multiple charges after allegedly stealing cash from a local café and injuring a police officer during his arrest on Thursday.

According to the Santa Fe Police Department, officers responded at about 12:55 p.m. Thursday to Armadilleaux Café, 13230 FM 1764 Road, Suite A, for a welfare check.

Staff told officers that a man entered the restaurant, went into the general manager’s office, and took bank bags containing cash before leaving in a white Dodge minivan.

La Marque police located the vehicle near FM 1764 and IH 45. Santa Fe officers conducted a traffic stop on the southbound feeder in the 6400 block of IH 45.

During the arrest, a La Marque officer was injured while taking the suspect into custody. Officers recovered the stolen bank bags from the vehicle.

The suspect, 46-year-old Eric Eaves of Santa Fe, is being held at the Galveston County Jail on charges of theft between $750 and $2,500, assault on a peace officer, and resisting arrest, search, or transport. Bond was set at $65,000.

The Santa Fe Police Department thanked all agencies that assisted in the incident.
