LEAGUE CITY — A 40-foot cabin cruiser was destroyed by fire Monday night at a League City marina, authorities said.
According to i45Now, the League City Volunteer Fire Department received reports just before 11 p.m. that the boat, docked at CP Waterfront Marina, 451 Constellation Boulevard, was fully engulfed in flames. League City Fire Chief Jeff Allen said the fire was raging when crews arrived.
“The good news is the owner wasn’t on board at the time; he was visiting family at the connected apartment complex,” Allen told i45Now.
Firefighters from League City, Webster, and Nassau Bay worked about 45 minutes to control the blaze. League City and Nassau Bay also deployed fire boats to help fight the fire. Allen said the fire was contained to the single vessel, known as the Sugar Honey.
The League City Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire. Allen noted that the boat was undergoing maintenance, so it wasn’t filled with fuel or oil, preventing a more hazardous chemical cleanup. Some debris from the boat remained floating in the waterway off the dock.
