GALVESTON – The City of Galveston is seeking community members to serve on nine city boards and commissions, offering residents an opportunity to share their expertise and play an active role in shaping city policies and programs, according to a city press release.
Applications are now open and may be submitted online at www.galvestontx.gov/servemycity. Residents with questions can email the City Secretary’s Office at CitySec@galvestontx.gov or call 409-797-3510.
Openings include:
- Arts & Historic Preservation Advisory Board: Advises Council on hotel occupancy tax funds designated for arts and historic preservation.
- Building Board of Adjustments and Appeals: A quasi-judicial body that reviews appeals related to building code enforcement and interpretations.
- Cultural Arts Commission: Recommends public art projects, issues calls for artists, and supports Galveston’s arts ecosystem.
- Finance, Fiscal Affairs and Investment Committee: Provides oversight and advisory guidance on financial matters.
- Landmark Commission: Oversees applications for historic zoning districts, landmark designations, and Certificates of Appropriateness.
- Parks and Recreation Advisory Board: Advises the Parks & Recreation Department on programming, facilities, and policies.
- Sister Cities Program Committee: Builds international relationships through cultural, educational, and business exchanges.
- Tree Committee: Advises Council on tree management and vegetation matters.
- Zoning Board of Adjustments: Reviews requests for special exceptions to zoning ordinances. Unlike other boards, it has final authority over its decisions.
