According to the Galveston Police Department, the training was hosted by the Houston Fire Department and involved members of GPD’s marine and dive team. During the exercise, two officers lost their footing and went underwater, prompting immediate rescue efforts by others on scene.

The Galveston Fire Department and Galveston EMS responded quickly, providing lifesaving medical care. One officer was transported to UTMB by police unit, while the second was taken by ambulance. Both are reported to be in good condition.

“I want to personally thank the quick-thinking officers on scene and the rapid, professional response from our Fire and EMS partners,” Galveston Police Chief Douglas Balli said. “Their actions ensured that lives were saved today.”
