LA MARQUE — A gas leak triggered a shelter-in-place order Monday afternoon in La Marque after a contractor struck a gas line near Laurel and First Street, city officials said.

The incident was reported around 3:25 p.m., when fire, police and CenterPoint Energy crews responded to the area. Residents in a zone stretching from Elmo to Bayou and from First Street to Yupon were told to remain indoors, shut windows and doors, and turn off fans, air conditioning and heating systems.

By 3:55 p.m., officials said the gas line had been isolated and the shelter order was lifted.

No injuries were reported, according to a city statement.
