GALVESTON — Fire officials are investigating a suspected arson at the site of an old Popeyes restaurant on Avenue J.
The Galveston Fire Department responded around 9 a.m. on Wednesday to the structure at 3027 Avenue J.
Assistant Chief Jarod Hutson told KGTX 7 that the fire produced heavy smoke but was mostly confined to the exterior of the building. No injuries were reported.
The Galveston Fire Marshal’s Office is handling the investigation, and officials have confirmed the blaze is being treated as arson.
