Charlie Kirk, 31, fatally shot while speaking at Utah Valley University

OREM, Utah — Conservative activist and Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk has died following a shooting at Utah Valley University, President Donald Trump confirmed on Truth Social, referring to the death as “devastating,” according to a report by The Guardian and others.

Kirk, 31, was shot in the neck while speaking during an event for his “American Comeback Tour” at the university. The Guardian reports the shooting occurred outdoors during a crowd Q&A session.

Initial confusion surrounded the suspect. A person detained at the campus was later determined not to be the shooter. As of this update, the suspect remains at large and the FBI is involved, according to The Guardian.

Kirk’s death has sparked widespread condemnation and grief across the political spectrum. In addition to Trump’s statement, the Guardian reported reactions from leaders including Utah Senator Mike Lee and Vice President J.D. Vance, who expressed sorrow and called for unity against political violence.

The incident is under active investigation by federal and local authorities, with more details expected to emerge.

Kirk was in Utah as part of his “American Comeback Tour,” a series of campus events promoting conservative viewpoints.
