CRYSTAL BEACH — A 35-year-old man was hospitalized in critical condition Sunday afternoon after a shooting in Crystal Beach, according to the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office.

Captain Maffe with GCSO told KGTX 7 that Deputies responded around 12:45 p.m. to the 300 block of Atkinson. They found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was flown to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.

Major crimes investigators and the identification division are processing the scene. Investigators said they have identified a suspect believed to be involved, but did not release a name.

Authorities said the shooting appears to be isolated and there is no ongoing threat to the public. The investigation remains active, and officials said they would not comment any further, due to it being an open case.

We will provide updates as they come in.

9/23 Editor’s note: A previous version of this story misspelled the street as “Atkins” instead of “Atkinson”. It has since been corrected. We have not received any further updates from law enforcement at this time.

9/24 Editor’s note: KGTX 7 spoke with Sheriff Jimmy Fullen for comment. Fullen stated he would contact us back, once he gathers additional details.
