TIKI ISLAND/45 — A wrong-way crash involving four vehicles left one person dead and another critically injured early Monday on Interstate 45 near the Galveston Causeway, according to the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office, as reported by FOX 26.
Deputies said they began receiving 911 calls shortly after midnight about a driver headed north in the southbound lanes near Tiki Drive. Moments later, reports came in of a crash.
When deputies, firefighters and EMS arrived, they found four vehicles had been involved. One of the vehicles caught fire at the scene.
One person was pronounced dead, and another was transported to a hospital in critical condition, FOX 26 reported. The incident was fully cleared and roads opened by 5am.
The names of the deceased and injured have not yet been released, and officials have not confirmed whether the wrong-way driver was among those killed or hospitalized. No charges have been announced.
The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
