FDA Recalls Millions of Corn Dogs and Sausages Due to Potential Wood Contamination

The Hillshire Brands Company of Haltom City, Texas, is recalling nearly 58 million pounds of corn dog and sausage-on-a-stick products over concerns that some items may contain pieces of wood, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced on September 27, 2025.

The affected products were packaged between March 17 and September 26, 2025, and bear establishment numbers “EST-582” or “P-894” on the packaging. The items were distributed to retail stores, food service providers, school districts, and Department of Defense facilities across the country. FSIS clarified that the recall does not involve products provided by the National School Lunch Program.

The recall follows multiple consumer complaints, including five reports of injuries linked to wooden pieces found in the products. Hillshire Brands conducted an investigation and determined the wooden materials entered the production process before battering. FSIS reported no additional injuries beyond the initial complaints.

Consumers, schools, and institutions are urged not to eat the products. FSIS recommends discarding the items or returning them to the place of purchase.
