GALVESTON — A man wanted on child sexual assault charges and his wife were arrested Monday after a high-speed chase through Galveston with a child in their vehicle, according to i45NOW.
The outlet reported that U.S. Marshals, Galveston police and Galveston County sheriff’s deputies attempted to stop a Toyota RAV4 around 9:45 a.m. in the 3500 block of Broadway. The vehicle, driven by 33-year-old Martha Angeles-Ortega, refused to pull over and reached speeds over 90 mph along Seawall Boulevard before crashing near Pirates Beach.
Her husband, 38-year-old Jose Luis Sanchez, fled on foot but was taken into custody in a grassy area between FM 3005 and Stewart Road. Authorities said that a child was in the vehicle during the chase.
Jose Sanchez was booked into the Galveston County Jail on a Brazoria County warrant for continuous sexual assault of a child, along with a misdemeanor charge of evading arrest, and is under an immigration hold. His bonds total $507,500.
Martha Angeles-Ortega was charged with felony evading arrest, hindering apprehension of a wanted suspect and child endangerment. She was booked into the county jail on $220,000 bond.
