Texas City to host Breast Cancer Awareness events in October

TEXAS CITY — The City of Texas City will mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a week of community events, capped by the 11th annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk/Run.

The schedule begins Monday, Sept. 29, with a free Zumba Night from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Wings of Heritage Room at the Nessler Center, 2010 5th Ave. N. A free line dancing class will follow Wednesday, Oct. 1, at the same time and location.

On Thursday, Oct. 2, a mobile mammogram unit will be available at Lowry Fitness Center, 1900 5th Ave. N., from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Appointments are required and can be made by calling Leonora Mata at 409-643-5877. Insurance is required.

The week concludes Saturday, Oct. 4, with the Breast Cancer Awareness Walk/Run at Rotary Pavilion in Nessler Park, 1700 5th Ave. N. The event begins at 8 a.m. and invites participants to honor survivors, support those battling breast cancer or remember loved ones lost to the disease.

Following the walk, food trucks and vendors will be on hand at the park.
