LA MARQUE — A Texas City police officer was arrested early Monday after La Marque authorities said he was found stopped in a travel lane on the Gulf Freeway.
La Marque police said officers responded about 3:30 a.m. to reports of a car blocking the far-right lane near Main Street, an area under construction with no shoulders. The driver, identified as 38-year-old Texas City officer Joseph Tinney, refused to perform a field sobriety test, police said. He was taken for a blood draw before being booked into the Galveston County Jail.
State records show Tinney joined the Texas City Police Department in December. According to KTRK-TV, he was previously arrested in 2011 by Texas City police on a DWI charge. Court records indicate that case ended with a plea to reckless driving and a $200 fine.
Texas City police officials have not commented on Tinney’s arrest, and his current employment status with the department is unclear. Attempts to reach him by phone were unsuccessful, KTRK reported.
