GALVESTON — Galveston police responded Tuesday evening to a serious single-vehicle crash on FM 3005 that left one person trapped and another ejected from the vehicle, authorities said.

The accident occurred around 6:05 p.m. in the 25000 block of the roadway. Fire Engine 8 was first on the scene and reported that one occupant was entrapped while a second had been thrown from the car. A traffic safety officer later confirmed that injuries may be life-threatening.

Police said the 2006 silver Mazda was traveling westbound when it struck a traffic barrier, crossed multiple lanes, veered into the grass, and collided with a utility pole, a one-way sign, and a do-not-enter sign.

Westbound lanes of FM 3005 were closed as authorities investigated. Both occupants were transported to UTMB Galveston for medical treatment.

Charges are pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation, officials said.
