GALVESTON — The City of Galveston will hold an open house on Wednesday, Oct. 15, to provide residents and stakeholders with details on the upcoming construction phase of the South Shore Drainage Project. The event runs from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Historic Galveston Water & Electric Light Community Center, 715 30th Street.
The project includes construction of a new stormwater pump station and upgrades to the drainage system in the South Shore Project Area, which is bounded by English Bayou to the north, Seawall Boulevard to the south, Saladia/57th Street to the east, and 61st Street to the west. Planned improvements include new storm drain connections, leads, inlets, pavement restoration, and an outfall pump station at English Bayou.
Attendees can view project designs and maps, see renderings of the new pump station, review the construction schedule and budget, and speak directly with project representatives.
Funding for the project comes from the Community Development Block Grant – Mitigation (CDBG-MIT) program, awarded by the Texas General Land Office using funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Officials say the pump station will expand storm sewer capacity and provide added protection against elevated water levels in English Bayou.
